{"id":173,"date":"2017-09-12T14:41:37","date_gmt":"2017-09-12T12:41:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bitmat.it\/iot\/?p=173"},"modified":"2017-09-12T14:52:44","modified_gmt":"2017-09-12T12:52:44","slug":"the-machine-il-computer-a-misura-di-big-data","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bitmat.it\/iot\/blog\/news\/173\/the-machine-il-computer-a-misura-di-big-data","title":{"rendered":"The Machine: il computer a misura di Big Data"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Il pi\u00f9 grande computer single-memory del mondo \u00e8 firmato <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lineaedp.it\/news\/30007\/iot-edge-computing-partnership-rittal-hpe\/#.WSRFtMb-s1k\" target=\"_blank\">Hpe<\/a> e rientra nel progetto di ricerca The Machine, un\u2019iniziativa di ricerca e sviluppo che punta a realizzare un nuovo paradigma denominato Memory-Driven Computing, un\u2019architettura appositamente creata per l\u2019era dei Big Data.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI segreti della prossima grande scoperta scientifica, innovazioni rivoluzionarie o tecnologie capaci di cambiarci la vita, si nascondono in piena vista dietro le montagne di dati che creiamo ogni giorno<\/em> &#8211; ha dichiarato <strong>Meg Whitman<\/strong>, CEO di <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hpe.com\/it\/it\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\">Hewlett Packard Enterprise<\/a> -. <em>Per concretizzare questa promessa non possiamo affidarci alle tecnologie del passato, bens\u00ec abbiamo bisogno di un computer costruito per l&#8217;era dei Big Data\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Il prototipo presentato di recente dispone di 160 terabyte (TB) di memoria, sufficienti per lavorare simultaneamente con otto volte i dati contenuti in tutti i volumi conservati presso la Libreria del Congresso statunitense, ovvero circa 160 milioni di libri. Finora non era mai stato possibile memorizzare e manipolare data set di queste dimensioni all&#8217;interno di un sistema single-memory.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scalabilit\u00e0 e implicazioni sociali<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sulla base del prototipo attuale, HPE prevede che l&#8217;architettura possa facilmente scalare fino a sistemi single-memory <strong>di scala exabyte<\/strong> e, andando oltre, fino a un pool di memoria pressoch\u00e9 infinito \u2013 4.096 yottabyte. Per dare un riferimento, si tratta di 1.000 volte l&#8217;intero universo digitale odierno.<\/p>\n<p>Con una tale quantit\u00e0 di memoria sar\u00e0 possibile lavorare simultaneamente con tutte le cartelle cliniche digitali di ogni persona sulla Terra; ogni dato presente all&#8217;interno di <strong>Facebook<\/strong>; ogni spostamento dei veicoli a guida autonoma di <strong>Google<\/strong>; e ogni data set prodotto dalle esplorazioni spaziali \u2013 e tutto nello stesso momento, ottenendo risposte e scoprendo nuove opportunit\u00e0 a velocit\u00e0 finora impensate.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cSiamo convinti che il Memory-Driven Computing sia la soluzione per far progredire il settore in modo da consentire passi avanti in tutti gli aspetti della societ\u00e0<\/em> &#8211; ha commentato <strong>Mark Potter<\/strong>, CTO di HPE e Director, Hewlett Packard Labs -.<em> L&#8217;architettura che abbiamo presentato pu\u00f2 essere applicata a qualsiasi categoria informatica, dai dispositivi edge intelligenti fino ai supercomputer\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Il Memory-Driven Computing mette al centro dell&#8217;architettura informatica la memoria, non il processore. Eliminando le inefficienze dell&#8217;attuale modo in cui memoria, storage e processori interagiscono oggi tra loro, il Memory-Driven Computing riduce il tempo necessario a risolvere problemi complessi da giorni a ore, da ore a minuti, da minuti a secondi, per produrre <strong>intelligence in tempo reale<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Specifiche tecniche<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Il nuovo prototipo fa leva sui risultati ottenuti dal progetto di ricerca The Machine come:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>160 TB<\/strong> di memoria condivisa distribuita tra 40 nodi fisici interconnessi mediante protocollo in fibra ad alte prestazioni<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Un sistema operativo ottimizzato basato su<strong> Linux<\/strong> che gira su <strong>ThunderX2<\/strong>, un dual socket di seconda generazione prodotto da Cavium, in grado di gestire System on a Chip (SoC) ottimizzati per carichi di lavoro ARMv8-A<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Link di comunicazione ottici\/fotonici, compreso il <strong>nuovo modulo fotonico X1<\/strong>, online e operativi;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>Tool di programmazione<\/strong> software progettati per sfruttare l&#8217;abbondante memoria persistente
