Responsibilities

The General Manager, Product Management is effectively the global business/P&L owners of all product lines within a specified curriculum area or market segment across grades pre K – 12. The GM/PM is the chief architect and steward for this curriculum area or market segment with responsibility for setting the strategic direction; overseeing the execution of that strategy and for leading a team of product managers responsible for product lines that are subsets of the curriculum area or market segments. The GM/PLM are also responsible for leading and overseeing cross-functional teams formed to optimize the curriculum area or market segment’s market position and financial return within the context of Pearson’s strategy and business plans.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Recruits and leads a talented and innovative group of product managers who combine in depth knowledge of the curriculum area or market segment, market realities and strong business analytical skills.
  • Works with their group of Product Managers, and a cross-functional team including individuals from Product Development and Sales and Marketing, to develop an annual strategic plan for the curriculum area or market segment, define broad product line requirements and recommend investments which improve Pearson’s competitive position in the marketplace and increase revenue and profitability.
  • Responsible for the P&Ls for the curriculum area or market segment and tracks, monitors and reports on the financial performance of the curriculum area or market segment and the individual product lines and makes mid course corrections as necessary.
  • Works closely with his or her peer in the Product Solutions Development Group to make sure that all product lines are conceived and developed on time and budget and is proactive about identifying and resolving any issues early on.
  • In collaboration with his or her peer in the Product Solutions Group, builds a research process, to insure that product lines are conceived, planned, executed and evaluated with the goal of improving educational performance.
  • In collaboration with his or her peer in the Sales and Marketing Group, builds and oversees the development and execution of marketing strategies, customer services and a retention plan to successfully launch and maintain the various product lines in the marketplace.
  • As a member of the Senior Product Management Team, actively participates in discussions and decisions about the strategies for all product lines and all investment recommendations.
  • Builds an in depth knowledge of Pearson’s product lines, the competition’s products and the relative strengths and weaknesses of these product portfolios.
  • Continually monitors and assesses market and competitive trends, educational trends and research, and customer needs and translate these into new, innovative product solutions, competitive differentiation and branding efforts.
  • Identifies, recommends and pursues acquisition targets and partnership strategies in support of product line strategic and financial goals.

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

    Related work experience

  • 10- 15 years of education, media, content or related industry experience, including at least 10 years’ experience managing P&Ls of north of $200M
  • Knowledge of the relevant content areas within the educational field for which product lines are being developed.
  • Substantive knowledge of the K-12 educational market channels and the unique aspects of marketing and selling to customers successfully.
  • Prior experience leading market research projects and the data analysis required to develop business strategies that anticipate market and customer needs.
  • Experience motivating and synchronizing the assigned resources to achieve the goals for a diverse portfolio of products.
  • Experience building and leading a group of 10-20 managers who come from different backgrounds but are able to work together to reach common goals. #LI-GS #LI-P
